Token Book
Skidmore's Church Tokens of the City of London.
In the last decade of the 19th century there were 69 churches in the City of London. Between 1796 and 1797 John Skidmore, an iron and grate manufacturer with premises in Holborn and Clerkenwell, produced a series of tokens for collectors illustrating 54 of these.
This book sets out to put them in the context of today by showing the churches that still exist and the sites of those that have since disappeared.
Copiously illustrated with 57 colour plates, it gives a history of each church plus, sections on the tokens and Skidmore himself.
